About The Position

The Extra Help Program Instructor will lead and guide participants in the UIC Fitness Program, ensuring classes are safe and effective. These non-credit courses are designed to enhance mind-body wellness and fitness. Classes are offered year-round in various disciplines.

Requirements

  • High School graduation or equivalent
  • Six months or more experience

Nice To Haves

  • Received training and certification
  • Skill in instructing and teaching others how to do something
  • Skill in monitoring/assessing performance of oneself, other individuals, in order to make improvements or take corrective action
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements of keeping certifications valid, if applicable
  • Ability to exert oneself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and/or legs, and to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate competency in instruction and effective communication.
  • Ability to explain and demonstrate fundamental techniques and methods.
  • Prepare and teach safe and effective programs.
  • Plan quality programs that meet students' needs and aspirations by designing safe, well-balanced classes adaptable to various fitness and skills levels.
  • Enforce program policies and rules as provided by the Group Fitness Coordinator.
