About The Position

The Municipality of Clarington, Public Services Department, Community Services Division is looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff to provide leadership and supervision in a safe and enjoyable environment for Clarington Programs. Clarington is launching a new Sport & Recreation program, Her Game, Our Goal, consisting of strategies that increase participation in sport among females and those who self-identify as women, in partnership with National Bank. This free tennis program helps remove barriers so that girl-identified youth, aged 7-13 years can experience everything sport has to offer, building life skills along the way. Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, Community Programs – Recreation and Inclusion, the successful candidate will assist in coaching girl-identified youth of various ages and abilities. This is a temporary 4-week opportunity, which applicants must be available during program hours which include the following Sundays – September 13th, 20th, 27th and October 4, 2026. Applicants must be available for all program dates due to the timeframe of the grant program.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience coaching children, youth, and/or adult in the sport of tennis in a recreation/sports setting with demonstrated leadership qualities and be a competent in the sport of tennis.
  • Exhibit maturity, responsibility, and strong leadership skills.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills of tennis with the ability to conduct activities and lead practices; possessing a current National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) - Instructor – Beginner Tennis is preferred and/or a minimum level of play of 2.0 is required.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and strong written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR “C” would be an asset at time of interview.
  • Certificate in High 5 Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) would be an asset at time of interview.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Recreation Coordinator in program delivery of Her Game, Our Goal – Tennis, girl-identified youth (ages 7-13 years), including creating and delivering lesson plans.
  • Adapting programming where required to support a safe and inclusive learning environment for all skill levels of participants.
  • Planning and delivering age-appropriate tennis activities and skill development sessions that follow Tennis Canada’s Whole Player Development Pathway (WPDP). Specifically focused on the Active Start and FUNdamentals stages.
  • Assisting with program setup, equipment management, and program evaluation to ensure participant safety.
  • Acting as a positive role model and mentor for participants to develop confidence, teamwork, and positive social connections.
  • Communicating effectively with participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Responding to general inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
  • Complete program reports as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Rate of Pay: $21.29 per hour (2026 rate).
