About The Position

At Roxbury Tenants of Harvard (RTH), we're not just about providing housing. We're about building a community. Founded in the early 1970s, RTH is deeply committed to advancing health equity, improving outcomes, and promoting the wellbeing of our residents, staff, and volunteers. We achieve this through engaging programs, activities, and safety initiatives. RTH is dedicated to developing, preserving, and maintaining safe and affordable housing for low and moderate-income people of diverse backgrounds in the RTH/Mission Hill neighborhood. RTH achieves its mission through property management, construction and rehabilitation of properties, provision of social and educational services, workforce development, and community activism. As one of the oldest grassroots tenant organizations, RTH is committed to defending the rights to quality, affordable housing for people of all races and cultures, and promoting tenant empowerment through active tenant participation in leadership and development. Today, RTH remains a resident-led organization, governed by an eleven-member, all-resident Board of Directors; led by the people who call RTH home. We are seeking talented Group Leader's for (School Age Children) to work with our youth on site.

Requirements

  • Candidates must meet the qualifications for Group Leader as specified by the Office for Children.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Have supervised work experience supporting positive youth development.
  • Successfully complete a Background Record Check (BRC).
  • Pathway 1: Minimum of nine (9) months of supervised work experience or one practicum working with school-age children. Requirement may be reduced to: Six (6) months with a high school diploma or equivalent. Three (3) months with an Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
  • Pathway 2: Minimum of three (3) months of supervised work experience with school-age children. High school diploma or equivalent. Three (3) college credits (or equivalent) in Child Growth and Development, Human Development, Elementary Education, or a related field.
  • Completion of EEC Essentials Training (Required Within 1 Month of Hire).
  • Current First Aid Certification (Required Within 1 Month of Hire).
  • Current CPR/AED Certification (Required Within 1 Month of Hire).
  • A demonstrated interest and commitment to working with children and families is necessary.
  • Evidence of a physical examination within 12 months of employment (Pre-Employment Requirement).
  • Records indicating immunity to MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) (Pre-Employment Requirement).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in designing and leading activities for children is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the daily planning and implementation of small group activities and direct supervision of children.
  • Actively participates in both small and large group activities.
  • Design and lead small group thematic activities to meet the social, educational, and recreational interests and needs of school-age children.
  • Provide a consistent, structured daily program of activities and participate in and supervise these activities.
  • Assist with homework, serving meals, leading field trips, and cleaning the facilities used by the After School Program.
  • Observe, record, and report significant individual and group behaviors.
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and clean group room environment.
  • Attend program events, staff meetings, group supervision sessions, and participate in training as recommended by the Program Director.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
