Position Summary Strong high school after school programs start with leadership that understands teens, builds effective teams, and delivers measurable results. As the Program Director, High School Programs, Grant, you’ll oversee six (6) YMCA grant-funded high school program sites across South Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, creating opportunities for students to strengthen academic skills, explore college and career pathways, develop leadership, and experience belonging. Grant management and attendance performance are central to this role. You’ll lead the implementation, monitoring, and successful delivery of programs supported through Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) and 21st Century Community Learning Centers/After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETs) funding. You’ll be accountable for meeting grant deliverables, managing budgets, maintaining accurate reporting and audit-ready records, and ensuring each site meets or exceeds its Average Daily Attendance (ADA) targets. We’re looking for an experienced high school expanded learning leader who knows how to turn student interests into sustained participation and grant requirements into well-run programs. You’ll coach Site Coordinators, strengthen school partnerships, and use attendance data and student feedback to build programs teens choose to attend and return to.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications Twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, recreation, public administration, or a related field preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in youth development, expanded learning, after school programming, education, or a related field, with extensive experience managing programs serving high school students.
  • Demonstrated success meeting or exceeding enrollment and Average Daily Attendance (ADA) targets, including experience developing recruitment and retention strategies and using attendance data to improve participation.
  • Strong experience managing grant-funded expanded learning programs, including program deliverables, budgets, data collection, attendance documentation, reporting, compliance, and audit preparation.
  • Direct experience with ELO-P and 21st Century Community Learning Centers/ASSETs funding strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing engaging teen programming, enrichment activities, curriculum, and student engagement strategies that reflect student interests and grant requirements.
  • Experience supervising and developing staff and managing multiple programs or program sites preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships with school administrators, district personnel, community organizations, students, and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, emotional maturity, and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines across multiple locations.
  • Ability to work on-site across South LA and the San Fernando Valley, including travel to the San Fernando Valley at least once per week.
  • Current approved EMSA First Aid and Adult, Infant, and Child CPR certifications (8 hours).
  • Completion of child abuse prevention training before the first day in the program and required TB testing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead ELO-P and 21st Century Community Learning Centers/ASSETs grant management, ensuring programs meet funding requirements, school district expectations, reporting deadlines, and required deliverables.
  • Drive measurable attendance results at every site.
  • Develop and implement student recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies that meet or exceed ADA targets.
  • Monitor attendance trends, identify gaps early, and lead timely improvements.
  • Manage grant-funded budgets, staffing allocations, supplies, vendors, and other program expenses while ensuring spending aligns with approved budgets and allowable expenditures.
  • Maintain accurate enrollment, attendance, fiscal, and program records.
  • Lead preparation for audits, monitoring visits, and compliance reviews, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Recruit, supervise, coach, and develop Site Coordinators and program staff, building clear expectations for grant performance, teen engagement, safety, and program quality.
  • Guide student-centered, club-based programming that includes academic support, enrichment, college and career readiness, leadership development, wellness, and recreation.
  • Ensure student voice and choice inform program design.
  • Build strong relationships with school administrators, district partners, students, families, and community organizations to strengthen recruitment, remove participation barriers, and align programming with each school’s priorities.
  • Conduct regular site visits and use student feedback, attendance data, and program evaluations to improve quality while maintaining safe, inclusive environments and consistent supervision practices.
