About The Position

The Alternative Dispute Resolution System, overseen by the Administrative Office of the Courts, manages thirteen regional Early Settlement Program offices across Oklahoma. These grant-funded programs offer free mediation services to courts and communities. Mediators are trained and certified community volunteers. The Early Settlement Mediation – Southeast Program, funded by the Supreme Court of Oklahoma and sponsored by East Central University (ECU), operates from the Pittsburg County Courthouse in McAlester, OK. This program provides mediation services to Choctaw, Haskell, Latimer, Leflore, McCurtain, McIntosh, Pittsburg, and Pushmataha counties, with a satellite office in McCurtain County. The Program Director is responsible for coordinating these mediation services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent and proven experience working in Microsoft Office suite including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize, make solid judgment and problem-solve.
  • Ability to self-manage and identify areas of need and complete day-to-day activities.
  • Must have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
  • Must have good oral/written communication skills and have the ability to handle several tasks at once.
  • Must be able to prioritize work assignments efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be a self-starter who requires minimal supervision.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example.
  • Must be a professional, credible and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible.
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous manner.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a working relationship with judges and court officials in the service area.
  • Develop public awareness of the program through correspondence, one-on-one discussions, and speaking presentations to local bar associations, civic clubs, schools, and other community organizations.
  • Conduct mediation sessions.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and certify volunteer mediators.
  • Oversee the operation of the program office, including supervision of staff, case management, scheduling, coordination of volunteer mediators, and monitoring the annual program budget.
  • Work with the State Director of Dispute Resolution and attend required meetings.
  • Submit monthly/annual program statistics to the State Director of Dispute Resolution and the Dispute Resolution Advisory Board.
  • Attend required mediation training (basic civil, family, and advanced).
  • Provide conflict resolution training to staff and students as requested by supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.
