About The Position

Program Counselors (PCs) are essential to the residential and social fabric of Edconic's pre-college programs. They are responsible for fostering a safe and inclusive living and learning community by adhering to the Student and Family Handbook and actively building camaraderie among students. Working under the guidance of the Residential Hall Director (RHD), PCs provide supervision, mentorship, and engaging activities for students throughout their on-campus stay. This is a live-in role, requiring up to 40 hours of work per week, with housing provided.

Requirements

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree or currently in college required.
  • 1+ years of previous residential life experience (summer camp, boarding school, college campus etc.) required.
  • Must be CPR certified or be willing to obtain prior to start of program.
  • Two references required.
  • Must be willing to live onsite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, travel up and down stairs, crouch, stoop, and reach.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • All staff will be working closely with minors and must successfully complete all training related to protection of minors.
  • All positions will require use of one’s personal cell phone.

  • Ability to speak another language is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Building and maintaining a strong, safe, and inclusive residential life community.
  • Setting up all residential spaces prior to student arrival.
  • Holding floor meetings to disseminate important information to the community.
  • Completing evening room-checks to ensure all students are accounted for.
  • Documenting student incidents through Student Management Software (SMS).
  • Escorting students to and from off-campus programming.
  • Designing and hosting residential programming to supplement Institute programming.
  • Assisting with the residential check-in and check-out process, ensuring students understand policies.
  • Presenting and supporting student orientation events, including diversity, equity, and inclusion sessions and community-building activities.
  • Supporting the physical and mental health of students and referring them to appropriate resources.
  • Attending weekly staff meetings.
  • Enforcing program policies and procedures to ensure participant safety, documenting violations and incidents.
  • Mediating roommate and peer conflicts.
  • Managing student and staff interactions using various student management software.
  • Completing room checks.
  • Abiding by Curfew and Proximity policy when scheduled.
  • Planning and leading recreational and social events and activities.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks using technology such as Orah, Pronto, Canvas, Microsoft Office, and online-based software.
  • Supporting the program through other assigned duties.
