About The Position

The main responsibilities of this role include supporting Second Harvest free grocery distribution programs across multiple regions, forming deep community relationships, and helping ensure effective, compliant, and client-centered food distributions. Program Coordinators support a portfolio of at least four regions by working closely with Regional Program Managers to deliver consistent, best-in-class client and volunteer experience. The Regional Program Manager for Program Coordinators will provide leadership and guidance to Program Coordinators, helping them prioritize responsibilities, manage their time effectively, and maximize their impact across the regions they support. Coordinators focus on free grocery program site support, community engagement, supply bins & special projects, and volunteer experience. This position dedicates 50-60% of the time to working actively in the community, supporting food distribution programs, engaging volunteers, and building community relationships, while the remaining time is spent on administrative responsibilities and internal coordination to ensure seamless distribution operations.

Requirements

  • Experience working with community programs, nonprofit partnerships, or social services initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative projects and represent an organization publicly.
  • Comfort working with diverse populations and applying cultural humility in community work.
  • Familiarity with program operations, volunteer coordination, and food safety standards.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in nonprofit, public health, community organizing, or social services.
  • Proficiency with databases (e.g., Salesforce), scheduling systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel frequently within the regions and work in the field approximately 40-60% of the time in personal or company vehicle.

  • Preferred fluency in another language, such as Spanish, Vietnamese, or Chinese, both.

Responsibilities

  • Support a portfolio of at least four regions, work in partnership with regional program managers with their Second Harvest free grocery programs.
  • Provide backup support and lead on-site Free Grocery distributions.
  • Ensure food safety and compliance requirements are met.
  • Support recruitment, training, and retention of long-term volunteers and site leaders.
  • Support client registration team with processing rosters as needed.
  • Represent Second Harvest in community conversations and initiatives.
  • Encourage inclusive and welcoming environments at sites and in all community interactions.
  • Assist with community outreach initiatives and programs to increase participation and awareness.
  • Attend and support regional gatherings.
  • Participate in the Supplies Sirens project team; fulfill supply requests and coordinate. delivery, restocking, and organization of supplies bins and supplies, including tables, freezer blankets, sandwich boards, and canopies.
  • Participate in or lead special projects to implement program improvements aligned with organizational goals.
  • Identify and apply best practices to strengthen service delivery and increase program efficiency.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to refine workflows, systems, and service strategies.
  • Uphold high standards of customer service with clients, partners, and volunteers.
  • Collect and report client and volunteer feedback to continuously improve experiences.
  • Ensure program participants and community members are treated with cultural humility and respect.
  • Support training and retention of long-term volunteers and site leaders.
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Engagement on the I2V (Impact 2 Volunteers) project team, including initiatives such as Site Leader Recruitment, Volunteer Experience Tracker, and Volunteer Appreciation Month.
  • Train, coach, and support site leaders and volunteers to enhance effectiveness and client experience.
  • Develop and share best practices for volunteer management and on-site operations across both counties.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
