About The Position

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is a national, nonprofit organization established in 1929 by a special Act of Parliament to oversee the medical education of specialists in Canada. Today, the Royal College has over 55,000 members and the vision remains to advance the learning for specialist physicians to deliver the best health care for all. The Royal College partners with patients, Fellows, residents, and other health care collaborators to lead specialty medical education through setting standards, assessment, and enabling continuous learning so that we can provide the best care possible for patients. Reporting to the Manager, Education Strategy, Innovations and Development (ESID), the Program Coordinator manages operations and activities related to system of specialty medicine in Canada. The Program Coordinator coordinates workflow, plans and organizes activities, develops briefing materials and decision documents, and provides guidance to internal and external partners regarding applications for recognition of new disciplines (primary specialties, subspecialties and Areas of Focused Competence), changes to existing disciplines, and policies and procedures of the Committee on Specialties (COS).

Requirements

  • Level of education, training, and experience equivalent to college degree in administration or related field.
  • 3 years of project / program coordination experience.
  • Experience preparing and delivering oral and written communication materials with minimal syntax, grammatical and spelling errors needing correction.
  • Experience researching, analyzing, interpreting, and synthesizing data and complex information to develop original content and produce final products to assist in decision making or be consumed as a knowledge piece.
  • Experience exercising judgement and initiative in adapting/applying guidelines, reviewing precedents, analyzing results to address non-standard issues or make recommendations.
  • Experience exercising a high level of discretion and judgement when dealing with confidential data/issues/ situations.
  • Experience applying organizational, time management and project management skills to plan, prioritize and coordinate own and others’ activities and work.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining strong working relationships and exchanging or providing information/instruction in a clear and professional manner to both internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all processes and activities related to applications for recognition and changes to existing specialties recognized by the Royal College to ensure policies are upheld, processes are applied, and timelines are met.
  • Oversee the coordination of meetings of the Committee on Specialties (COS) to ensure action items are implemented and the committee’s mandate is fulfilled.
  • Assist in managing resources to ensure program of discipline recognition delivers intended results.
  • Employ continuous quality improvement principles to ensure program is effective and efficient.
