About The Position

This position conducts Administrative Hearings for the Division of Motor Vehicles for a variety of circumstances that involve drivers or vehicles. This position will hear motions, take testimony, review and analyze all evidence, and render a fair and impartial decision based on the evidence presented. This position must also draft Findings of Facts and Conclusion of Law. This position is required to service customers in areas of motor vehicle regulations and thus requires a thorough working knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations related to the various business areas (such as ACIS and CJLEADS). This position must be familiar with the formal aspects of civil procedure. This position should consistently demonstrate good legal knowledge, effective communication skills (verbal and written), and proper courtroom decorum when dealing with all parties. The program area for this position includes one or more of the following: experience DMV Driver Services, experience using State Automated Driver License System (SADLS), working knowledge of Administrative Office of Courts (AOC), working knowledge of CJLEADS, experience with legal evidentiary proceedings, interviewing, order writing, and decision making.

Requirements

  • Experience with the formal aspects of civil procedures and protecting the constitutional rights of all parties involved in the administrative process
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, entering and extracting information from Mainframe and web-based systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct fair and impartial administrative hearing, formulate clear and concise finding of fact, analyze relevant legal standards, establish conclusions of law, render unbiased decisions based on the evidence and testimony provided and prepare well written orders.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide customer service to diverse groups and communicate with internal and external agencies to include law enforcement agencies, DMV personnel, district attorneys, trial lawyers and judges.
  • Knowledge of Chapter 20 Motor Vehicle Laws, criminal law and procedures, the rules of Civil Procedure, and constitutional law as applied to court proceedings.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
