About The Position

This position conducts Administrative Hearings for the Division of Motor Vehicles for a variety of circumstances that involve drivers or vehicles. This position will hear motions, take testimony, review and analyze all evidence, and render a fair and impartial decision based on the evidence presented. This position must also draft Findings of Facts and Conclusion of Law. This position is required to service customers in areas of motor vehicle regulations and thus requires a thorough working knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations related to the various business areas (such as ACIS and CJLEADS). This position must be familiar with the formal aspects of civil procedure. This position should consistently demonstrate good legal knowledge, effective communication skills (verbal and written), and proper courtroom decorum when dealing with all parties. The program area for this position includes one or more of the following: experience DMV Driver Services, experience using State Automated Driver License System (SADLS), working knowledge of Administrative Office of Courts (AOC), working knowledge of CJLEADS, experience with legal evidentiary proceedings, interviewing, order writing, and decision making.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply legal standards to ensure fair and legally sound outcomes and adherence to program regulations.
  • Skill in reviewing legal data, including testimony and documentation to determine relevance and accuracy, resolve issues, and render impartial decisions in written form that can withstand legal scrutiny.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and entering and extracting information from mainframe and/or web-based systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with diverse stakeholders including customers, attorneys, law enforcement, and internal staff.
  • Knowledge of Chapter 20 Motor Vehicle Laws.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
