About The Position

The NC Utilities Commission is looking for a Program Coordinator II. This position is assigned to the Executive Management Division within the Utilities Commission. This position serves as confidential assistant to each assigned Commissioner and as general support for the Office of the Commissioners, consisting of five (5) Commissioners. This position acts on behalf of the assigned Commissioners with consumer complaints, referrals from the Governor’s Office and the U.S. and State General Assembly members and refers issues as necessary to the other staff of the Commission and Public Staff based on calls, personal visits and emails received by the Commissioners. This position makes decisions independently, while exercising good judgment and interpretation of North Carolina law and Commission policies. The primary purpose of this position is to perform administrative duties in support of the Commission’s executive management. This position requires strong computer and internet research skills, flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work effectively with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as external agencies. Sensitivity to confidential matters is required.

Requirements

  • APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION.
  • Bachelor's degree from appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; Or; An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated administrative experience in a legal, legislative, or regulatory office environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Pro.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple calendars and schedules for managers and/or executive level staff.
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated proficiency working on and completing assignments and projects under specific directions and time constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining assigned Commissioners calendar, including scheduling meetings, appointments, speaking engagements and travel arrangements.
  • Frequently interacting with Commission Staff and external stakeholders to coordinate meetings and hearings; aid in the flow of information between Commissioners and Commission Staff and support in the smooth functioning of the Commission as a state agency.
  • Respond to telephone inquiries and provide appropriate responses and referrals on behalf of the Commissioners.
  • Draft, review and send correspondence on behalf of Commissioners.
  • Prepare documents, meeting agenda and minutes, and opening statements for formal legal proceedings.
  • Compile, organize, and maintain case files, letters and memorandums.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements and itineraries and prepare all related documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Assistant to ensure in-person office coverage and that the needs of the Commissioners are consistently met.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the North Carolina General Statutes governing the Commission, basic administrative law procedure, and legal terminology frequently used in the Commission’s day-to-day functions; collaborate to ensure that Commissioners have all the necessary resources and materials to perform their duties effectively.
