The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, with approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The purpose of this position is to provide support and office management for the Chief of Independent Living Services Program and Medical Eye Care Program, located in the State Office 100% of the time. This person is directly supervised by the Chief of Independent Living. This position serves as a vital link for communication and coordination among field staff located in various areas on campus, Governor Morehead School, seven Division Services for the Blind district offices (Asheville, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Raleigh, Fayetteville, Greenville, Wilmington) and all 100 county Department of Social Services. This person must have knowledge of the job responsibilities of each staff member as well as all Independent Living Services/Medical Eye Care policies and procedures to assist the Chief in coordinating the efforts of all staff. This requires contact by phone, mail, email and in person with staff to disseminate information, materials, and messages. Time management is a very important key factor for this position. The Division of Services for the Blind provides services to people who are visually impaired, blind and deaf-blind to help them reach their goals of independence and employment.
