About The Position

The Community School Coordinator strengthens the bond between community schools and their surrounding community by positioning schools as a welcoming resource to students, parents, and community members. The position works collaboratively with school principals, partner agencies, and community members to co-design, implement, and manage all community school services at assigned schools. The Community School Coordinator employs an assets-based approach to the 21223 community as they build community partnerships, communicate available services, and coordinate various events that support the strategic vision of the Future Baltimore School Cohort. The position will co-create a refined community school strategy for six schools in the Bon Secours Baltimore footprint.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Business, Human Services, Human Resources, Education or equivalent from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience is required.
  • Two years of social service experience.
  • Organizational skills, record keeping skills, and time management skills
  • Proficient in in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective verbal, oral presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Detail oriented with excellent critical thinking skills

  • Experience managing multiple complex projects.
  • Experience working with youth, families, and community members from Title I schools.
  • Record of building partnerships between public agencies, private organizations, community residents, and funders in the non-profit and government fields.
  • Experience engaging community residents and parents in support services.
  • Experience using a racial equity framework to empower disinvested communities of color.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Community Schools Program Manager, principals, school staff, students, and 21223 community residents to create a welcoming and supportive school environment for both students and the community at large.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned principals.
  • Successfully coordinate the community schools needs assessment process at assigned schools by gathering community level data and conducting surveys of students, families, and staff.
  • Manage the coordination and implementation of community partnerships used to support the needs identified during the community school needs assessment process.
  • Maintain an active list of resources and services that students, families, and community members can access.
  • Refers students and families to external community agencies and organizations when appropriate for specialized support.
  • Recruit, train, and manage school volunteers to further the success of individual schools and the outcomes of partnerships.
  • Employ data collection strategies for all initiatives implemented at assigned schools.
  • Submit a monthly reporting dashboard to each assigned principal to communicate services being provided and their outputs.
  • Submits timely weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual qualitative and quantitative reports on services as requested.
  • Support the Community Schools Program Manager in the evaluation of support services being provided at assigned schools.
  • Represents designated schools publicly, as requested, reporting on program successes and outcomes.
  • Establish a community school council comprised of school administrators, staff, students, community representatives and extended service partners, with the goal of identifying, coordinating, and brokering relationships for service delivery at the school.
  • Collaborate with Bon Secours Community Works other Community School Coordinators to allow for effective resource allocation.
  • Participate in professional development and capacity-building activities, including but not limited to trainings, meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Coordinate services and work plans with the other Future Baltimore Community School Coordinators.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Family Support Center Director and Community Schools Program Manager.
