About The Position

The Regulation Room Assistant supports students in developing self-regulation, emotional intelligence, and positive coping strategies. This role involves assisting students in a designated regulation space where they can take breaks, process emotions, and receive guidance on managing their feelings and behaviors in a constructive manner. The program assistant will collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to support the social-emotional development of students, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working with children in an educational, counseling, or behavioral support setting.
  • Strong understanding of child development, emotional regulation, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and supportive when working with students experiencing emotional distress.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and families.
  • Knowledge of positive behavior interventions, conflict resolution, and restorative practices.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Basic proficiency in using computers for documentation and communication purposes.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field preferred.
  • Training or certification in social-emotional learning, crisis intervention, or behavioral support strategies.
  • Experience working in an elementary school setting.
  • Candidates must possess knowledge and experience with Autism and positive behavior support practice
  • Behavior background such as RBT, etc., preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support students in the regulation room, providing strategies to help them manage their emotions and behaviors.
  • Facilitate social-emotional learning (SEL) activities, mindfulness exercises, and coping strategies tailored to individual student needs.
  • Work with students to develop self-regulation skills and create individualized action plans for emotional and behavioral growth.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to identify students who may benefit from the regulation room and SEL support.
  • Document student visits, progress, and interventions used to support emotional regulation and social skills.
  • Communicate with parents, guardians, and relevant school staff regarding student needs, progress, and recommendations for continued SEL support.
  • Maintain a structured, calm, and welcoming environment within the regulation room.
  • Assist in crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed, following school protocols.
  • Participate in professional development and training related to social-emotional learning and student support strategies.
