About The Position

Assists with planning, promoting, setting up, and executing educational, cultural, and recreational programs for patrons of all ages, as well as assisting with branch duties as needed. This role involves interpreting and implementing library policies, serving as a liaison, providing public assistance in reference and readers' advisory, assisting with program planning and implementation, identifying community needs, developing community rapport, implementing marketing, maintaining the collection, answering phones, and performing circulation desk duties. The position requires operating integrated library system software for various tasks including checking materials in and out, processing requests, and handling overdue, lost, and damaged items. Some evenings and weekends are required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months of related experience and/or training, OR an equivalent combination of education.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Skill in using standard business software and equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and managerial skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
  • Communicate effectively with patrons and staff.
  • Perform various mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment.
  • Interact professionally with the public and external organizations.
  • Exercise initiative, discretion, and decision-making within established guidelines.
  • Apply common sense to daily tasks, patron assistance, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in problem-solving.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the designated programming staff with planning, promoting, setting up, and executing educational, cultural, and recreational programs.
  • Interprets and implements library policies and procedures for library users.
  • Serves as liaison between library administration, other branches, and branch staff.
  • Provides public assistance in light reference and readers’ advisory services, and use of collections, catalogs, and electronic resources.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of system-wide programs.
  • Assists in identifying community educational and informational needs and supports program planning, execution, and evaluation.
  • Develops and maintains rapport with community organizations and supports library representation at community activities.
  • Implements marketing for branch programs and services.
  • Assists in maintaining the collection.
  • Answers and directs telephone calls.
  • Sorts, shelves, shelf-reads, organizes, straightens, and shifts collections.
  • Works at the public service desk and provides customer service.
  • Operates integrated library system software (ILS) for checking materials in and out, processing requests, and handling overdue, lost, and damaged item procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
