About The Position

Beach Hillel is seeking a Program and Engagement Coordinator to build one-on-one relationships with students, plan and execute engaging events and programs, and inspire students to commit to Jewish life. This role involves significant student interaction and collaboration with a team to inform strategy and professional development. Located between Los Angeles and Orange County, Beach Hillel serves six campuses and provides programming at the Alpert Beach Hillel House. The coordinator will work with seasoned professionals, engage a diverse student population, many of whom are new to Jewish life, and foster an inviting environment for exploring Jewish identity. This is more than a typical 9-to-5 job, focusing on building a strong Jewish community through relationship-based engagement (RBE). The ideal candidate is passionate about creating a vibrant Jewish community, committed to learning, and eager to make a difference, with extensive Jewish education not being a prerequisite.

Requirements

  • 0–3 years of professional work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • This is an in-person role located in Long Beach, CA; remote work is not available for this position.
  • A "can-do" attitude and strong entrepreneurial spirit — the ability to think outside the box, ask questions with curiosity, and find ways to overcome obstacles to achieve your goals.
  • A professional demeanor with a nuanced understanding of how to build relationships with students, connecting with them to deeply engage them in Jewish life while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Strong communication skills that allow you to bring trends, concerns, and ideas to executive leadership, and engage with stakeholders at various levels such as university professionals, community leaders, and partnering organizations.
  • A passion for impacting Jewish life on college campuses and demonstrated interest in student engagement and leadership.
  • The ability to collaborate across teams both inside and outside of Hillel, and work with a variety of personalities and student needs.
  • A desire to learn, show up, achieve impact, and find meaning in your work each and every day.
  • Recent College Graduate with experience as a participant and/or educator in a Jewish educational setting.
  • Interest in creating a vibrant Jewish community, a commitment to learning, and the desire to make a difference in the lives of students.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize RBE to meet with students on and off campus to engage them, identify their interests, connect opportunities, and share these learnings with the entire Beach Hillel team.
  • Track student engagements in relationship tracking software and maintain up-to-date records.
  • Map out a plan to strategically build one-on-one relationships with students.
  • Recruit students for various weekly programs and events, holiday dinners, community volunteering, and larger initiatives like Birthright and Shabbat on campus.
  • Support student leadership and build relationships with university staff to facilitate the on-campus Beach Hillel Club.
  • Plan, support, and facilitate tabling on all six campuses.
  • Maintain student-facing communication via text message, WhatsApp, social media, and other platforms.
  • Promote Beach Hillel events by creating flyers and communicating with the student body.
  • Co-teach or teach Jewish learning modules based on student needs, organizational strategy, and expertise.
  • Coordinate bridge-building work with other cultural and religious groups on campus.
  • Support and guide student leaders to enhance campus initiatives, ensuring impactful and innovative programming.
  • Participate in immersive professional development experiences, including Hillel International training and conferences.
  • Spend mornings, afternoons, and potentially evenings on campus outside of programming to engage with students and recruit new ones.
