About The Position

The Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies provides access to degrees and programs that engage, educate and empower lifelong learners and communities. The Center for Community Learning and Engagement creates multidisciplinary courses, programs, events, exhibitions and initiatives supporting the lifelong learning and thriving of adults from 18 to 100+ in Houston and beyond. The Center for Community Learning and Engagement (CCLE) seeks a Program Administrator to join our team. This role provides administrative and programmatic support for a range of Center for Community Learning and Engagement programs including Lifelong University, a pilot virtual learning initiative serving retirement community residents across the nation. The incumbent will join CCLE at an exciting time in the development and expansion of this innovative program serving later-in-life learners. In addition, this position will provide general administrative support for the Center, provide basic instructor and student implementation support for selected on campus and online CCLE courses, as well as for other learning and engagement initiatives serving adult lifelong learners in the Houston community and beyond. The ideal candidate will have strong administrative and organizational skills, attention to detail, problem-solving skills and initiative, as well as excellent collaboration, customer service and communication skills. They will also have an enthusiasm for supporting access to lifelong learning, community engagement and equitable thriving. Must be able to work at a computer workstation for extended periods of time Occasional evening/weekend work to support courses and special events Following successful completion of probation period, this position may be eligible for a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration, as job duties permit and in keeping with current Glasscock School policies. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • One or more (1+) years of related experience in an program administrative or similar role
  • In lieu of the education/experience requirement, additional related education and/or experience, above and beyond what is required, may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in higher education, adult learning or lifelong learning
  • Experience with online learning management systems (such as Canvas)
  • Familiarity with Zoom or similar video conference platform
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft and Google software: word processing, spreadsheets, email, and database software programs

Responsibilities

  • Administers the daily operations of assigned program(s) with general guidance of a faculty member or a senior staff member
  • Conducts research, analyzes data, identifies trends and develops reports
  • Plans and monitors annual project budgets, assists in the development of longer term budget plans
  • Recommends and implements outreach plans, including communications, events, marketing, conferences, etc.
  • Plans and coordinates logistical aspects of recruitment activities
  • Provides support to faculty, staff and students as related to the program
  • For academic programs, may assist with graduate student recruitment and admissions, student records, curriculum support, coordinating the accreditation process, managing scholarships and fellowships, and monitoring student progress
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
  • Provides administrative and programmatic support for Lifelong University, a pilot virtual retirement community learning initiative
  • Provides administrative and programmatic support for the Center for Community Learning and Engagement
  • May include reviewing and proofing course materials, coordinating course and program evaluations, coordinating and tracking select course enrollments, providing basic instructor and student implementation support of select on campus and/or online courses, providing other support for Lifelong University, the Center for Community Learning and Engagement, the Center’s Director, and/or other tasks as assigned
