About The Position

Seneca is seeking passionate individuals to join its dynamic faculty and redefine teaching and learning. As a professor, you will be part of a team committed to providing an education experience that goes beyond textbooks and classrooms, equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in dynamic labor markets. You will be at the forefront of experiential learning, working closely with industry partners to provide students with real-world insights and opportunities. Your role will involve demonstrating teaching excellence, academic leadership, and expertise in curriculum development through initiatives like entrepreneurship, applied research, and co-op placements. Requirements

  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in firefighting and fire ground operations is required.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required.
  • Minimum completed of Master Degree in Fire Protection, related engineering or equivalent.
  • Completed IFSAC or Pro Board accreditation in the following is required: NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I & II; NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Level I; NFPA 1035 Fire & Life Safety Educator Level I; and NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level I.
  • Demonstrated competencies to deliver in-person, online and hybrid teaching.
  • Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills is required and demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team.
  • An understanding and commitment to equity in education.

Responsibilities

  • Providing academic leadership in the classroom and ensuring an effective and compelling learning environment for students.
  • Engaging students with course objectives, delivery approaches, and evaluation methods to promote active learning.
  • Delivering courses across in-person, online, and hybrid formats using inclusive and evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Integrating laboratory-based learning and applied scientific techniques to enhance student outcomes.
  • Supporting students through academic advising, mentoring, and individualized feedback.
  • Fostering an engaging learning environment enriched by real-world applications and current scientific practices.
  • Designing and updating curriculum aligned with current developments in fire protection technology.
  • Developing assessments that reflect diverse learning styles and applied competencies.
  • Collaborating with program leadership and industry stakeholders to ensure program relevance.
  • Contributing to program quality through curriculum review and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Selecting and developing learning materials reflecting current research and industry practices.
  • Contributing to academic planning and program development.
  • Participating in applied research and industry engagement activities.
  • Supporting departmental collaboration and mentorship.
  • Staying current in emerging scientific trends.
