About The Position

The Stanford-Surgery Policy Improvement Research & Education (S-SPIRE) Center in the Department of Surgery at Stanford University seeks a candidate with expertise in developing and implementing research initiatives that leverage AI techniques to enhance surgical decision-making, improve patient outcomes, and/or advance translational surgical research. The position is open for Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor within the University Medical Line (UML), University Tenure Line (UTL), or Non-Tenure Line (Research) (NTL-R). The ideal candidate will have experience and interest in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including surgeons, data scientists, and researchers, and contributing to the department's academic mission through research, teaching, and mentorship. Specific requirements vary by appointment line: a Ph.D. in an AI-related field (Data Science, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or similar) is required for UTL and NTL-R applicants. Applicants for the UML position must have an MD/DO or equivalent and be board-certified in a clinical specialty. The University Tenure Line (UTL) emphasizes a strong commitment to research and teaching. The University Medical Line (UML) focuses on excellence in clinical care, teaching, advancing clinical medicine through scholarly activity, and institutional service. The Non-tenure Line (Research) (NTL-R) requires evidence of high-level research performance aligned with programmatic needs. The final faculty rank and line will be determined by the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Requirements
