About The Position

The Institute of American Constitutional Thought & Leadership at the University of Toledo is seeking to fill multiple open-rank faculty positions starting in fall 2027. The Institute is an interdisciplinary center focused on the foundational principles, institutions, and texts of America’s constitutional order and Western Civilization. It offers courses, degree programs, and public events to enhance humanities offerings and serve the community. Faculty are expected to contribute to their disciplines, teach and mentor students, engage in scholarly activity, and serve the university and community. Faculty will teach up to five courses per academic year, with appointments and tenure held within the Institute. The Institute offers a minor in Constitutional Studies, a minor in Science, Technology, and Society (STS), and will soon launch a Constitutional Studies Major. Faculty typically teach multiple sections of CLT 2000: The American Constitutional Tradition, which introduces students to key readings in American political thought, American constitutionalism, early modern political philosophy, and great speeches by American statesmen. Candidates should align with the Institute’s mission of educating students in Western civilization texts, American and Ohio political order principles, and responsible leadership and informed citizenship. This is a full-time position with competitive salaries based on qualifications and experience. Requirements

A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree, conferred by August 1, 2027.
A commitment to and demonstrated understanding of the Institute’s mission.
A robust research agenda.
Evidence of excellence in teaching.
Demonstrated ability to teach a course on the American constitutional tradition and key texts of the Western political tradition that have influenced America’s political development.
Experience engaging with a variety of academic, administrative, and public audiences.
