About The Position

The University of Pittsburgh's Department of Medicine, Renal-Electrolyte Division, is seeking a full-time faculty member at the Associate Professor and Professor levels, with or without tenure, for the position of Chief of the Renal-Electrolyte Division. This role reports directly to the Chair of Medicine and is responsible for leading and ensuring the continued excellence of the scientific, educational, and clinical programs within the Division. The Chief will oversee operations and strategy, sustain the growth of programs, enhance extramural funding, and play a critical role in developing groundbreaking clinical, translational, and basic research and training programs. This leadership position requires a dynamic, passionate, and experienced physician-scientist with a proven track record in collaborative clinical leadership, administrative experience, academic and educational excellence, program development, scholarship, faculty recruitment and development, and community engagement.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree required.
  • Board Certification in Internal Medicine.
  • Subspecialty clinical and/or research fellowship in Nephrology.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • For Associate Professor: Five or more years of experience in related scientific research; independent, external research funding and a substantial record of peer-reviewed publications; significant teaching experience; demonstrated capacity for sustained, impactful, and independent scholarly contributions and leadership.
  • For Professor: Served five to seven years as Associate Professor.
  • Outstanding credentials and a record of academic achievement, national engagement, and distinction as a clinician, educator, and investigator with considerable scientific stature and strong evidence of scholarship.
  • Academic credentials and achievements should meet qualifications for appointment as a full professor or senior associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
  • Successful administrative leadership experience in an academic health center and/or research institution.
  • Recognized clinical expertise in an area of Nephrology.
  • Formative leadership experience.
  • Successful track record of recruiting and developing faculty (clinicians, clinician scientists, full-time scientists).
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and recruit a diverse staff at all levels.
  • Doctoral or appropriate professional degree (MD or DO).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and ensure the continued excellence of the scientific, educational, and clinical programs within the Division of Renal-Electrolyte.

  • Enhance the clinical, educational, and research missions of the Division.
  • Integrate community practices and community physicians into academic practice.
  • Recruit and develop faculty (clinicians, clinician scientists, full-time scientists).
  • Identify and recruit a diverse staff at all levels.
  • Provide significant teaching experience.
  • Demonstrate the capacity for sustained, impactful, and independent scholarly contributions and leadership.
  • Attain authoritative knowledge and reputation in a recognized field of learning.
  • Achieve effective teaching skills.
  • Attain superior stature in their field through scholarship, professional practice, and leadership in professional and learned organizations.
