About The Position

The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology (MIC) at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks outstanding applicants in the field of Virology. This is an open rank position, with opportunities for tenure-eligible or tenured roles at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. The department is looking for individuals with a strong focus on any area of virology who employ an integrated, cross-disciplinary approach to research. Current faculty research interests include the molecular biology of DNA and RNA viruses, virus immune evasion and pathogenesis, viral latency, and the RNA biology of viruses. The department's research spans Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology, with a focus on fundamental biology, host-microbe interactions, immune system development and function, and the cellular, molecular, and genetic basis of cancer. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, well-funded research environment with excellent resources, including state-of-the-art research space and core facilities, such as BSL-3 facilities, flow cytometry, microscopy, and small animal imaging. The role involves establishing and maintaining an independent, productive, innovative, and extramurally funded research program, as well as participating in the teaching of graduate and medical students. The department and university offer strong support for early-career faculty and trainees through various programs and partnerships with institutes and centers.

Requirements

• Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree or equivalent.
• For assistant professor applications: evidence of outstanding postdoctoral experience, including publications.
• For associate professor and professor applications: outstanding publications and funding track record.
