About The Position

The Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University is seeking a dynamic Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Sports Media and Communication. This role involves research, teaching, and leadership within the new Sports Media and Communication (SMC) major, which focuses on hands-on content creation using industry-standard and emerging digital tools in areas like broadcasting, writing, social media, and public relations. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. (or relevant terminal degree) by the time of appointment or a master’s degree with at least five years of full-time professional experience. Preferred qualifications include relevant teaching experience and a demonstrated ability to produce nationally/internationally recognized scholarship or creative work, commensurate with rank. Iowa State University, an R1 research-intensive university in the Big 12, offers significant collaboration opportunities for the scholarly analysis of sports communication. Adherence to programmatic goals and curriculum objectives is required, as the school is accredited by ACEJMC.

Requirements

  • M.S. in journalism, advertising, public relations, or related field and five years of relevant, full-time professional experience, OR Ph.D. or relevant terminal degree in journalism, advertising, public relations, or related field.
  • For Associate/Full rank: Must meet university standards for appointment to the rank, including a record of peer-reviewed scholarship or juried creative works in the candidate’s area of expertise commensurate with rank.
