About The Position

The Department of Medical Education at the Quillen College of Medicine invites applications for a full-time tenure track or non-tenure track Professor of Pathology and Histology. This position supports the instructional mission of the College through teaching of pathology, histology, pathophysiology, medicine, and other clinical sciences to medical students, residents, and other health professions students. The successful candidate will contribute to medical education through active learning instruction, integrated medical curriculum delivery, medical education scholarship, and basic science and/or medical education-based research. The faculty member will also participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and ability to teach pathology and histology at the medical school level.
  • Ability to lead pathology resident teaching activities.
  • Ability to integrate clinical correlations into pre-clinical medical education.
  • Ability to conduct scholarly research and mentor medical students in such endeavors.
  • Strong communication, instructional, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to navigate and utilize educational-based software for educational purposes.
  • Expertise and interest in molecular pathology, pediatric pathology, urologic pathology, GI pathology, and thoracic pathology.
  • Clinical experience as a practicing pathologist.
  • Demonstrated experience with administration of medical education.
  • Experience in physician assistant education and training programming.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching pathology related content to medical students.
  • M.D. and Ph.D. degrees with expertise in experimental pathology.
  • Board certification in both anatomic and clinical pathology.
  • Full professor status at current institution.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching other health related content within an integrated medical school curriculum.
  • Evidence of research and/or medical education scholarship.
  • Experience mentoring medical, graduate or other professional students.
  • Membership in professional pathology societies that are either regional or national.

Responsibilities

  • Develop course objectives linked to USMLE content and QCOM institutional educational objectives where histology and pathology are relevant.
  • Develop and deliver pathology, histology, and pathophysiology materials necessary for pre-clinical medical students.
  • Teach pathology, histology, and pathophysiology content to medical students using active-learning and small-group facilitation.
  • Write and modify quality NBME-style questions with faculty and staff support to be used in both the classroom and assessment settings, ensuring fair and accurate evaluation of student learning.
  • Collaborate with faculty across basic and clinical sciences to ensure content integration.
  • Act as a team-member to ensure courses and learning activities run smoothly.
  • Work as a valued team-member in implementing course continuous quality improvement.
  • Lead pathology specific didactic sessions to pathology residents.
  • Integrate clinical correlations into the pre-clinical discipline specific instruction.
  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and assessment.
  • Conduct scholarly activities in basic sciences, clinical medicine, and/or medical education.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.
