The School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in artificial intelligence (AI) to advance comparative biomedical sciences and clinical veterinary medicine. We aim to build on existing strengths and foster collaborative opportunities across schools and colleges at UW-Madison to pioneer AI in veterinary medicine and to develop technologies that impact other health sciences. This position complements campus efforts through the Wisconsin Research, Innovation and Scholarly Excellence (RISE)-AI initiative designed to help address significant, complex challenges and opportunities in AI through accelerated and strategic faculty hiring, research infrastructure enhancement, interdisciplinary collaboration and increased student and educational opportunities. There are excellent opportunities for the new faculty member to benefit from existing SVM and campus strengths in the comparative biomedical sciences, One Health, planetary health, and agricultural and food research. Faculty within the School of Veterinary Medicine train graduate students in the Comparative Biomedical Sciences Training Program and other campus graduate programs. They also serve as trainers on a variety of NIH training grants administered through the School and other units on campus. The new faculty member will be able to engage with resources and facilities including the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, Influenza Research Institute, Midwest Center of Excellence for Vector-borne Disease, Global Health Institute, Food Research Institute, USGS National Wildlife Health Center, Wisconsin National Primate Research Center, Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene, Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research, Center for High-throughput Computing, Data Science Institute, and UW Extension Services. Additional opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration exist across the School of Medicine and Public Health, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Engineering, Nelson Institute of Environmental Studies, and School of Computer Data & Information Sciences.
