About The Position

The Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta is seeking applications for up to two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in Energy Materials. These positions are part of the University of Alberta’s priority to build a diverse faculty in strategic research areas. We welcome applications from scholars with research expertise in energy-related materials and/or processes for energy production, conversion, storage, transport, and utilization. All research related to experimental and/or computational aspects of energy materials is of interest, including materials design and processing, validated artificial intelligence and models at the mesoscale and systems scale. The areas of application are infrastructure for fossil fuels (gas/oil), hydrogen, greenhouse gas mitigation (e.g., CO2), renewable energy, nuclear, defence, dual-use applications, and other related advanced materials. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field.
  • Research expertise in energy-related materials and/or processes for energy production, conversion, storage, transport, and utilization.
  • Experience in experimental and/or computational aspects of energy materials research.
  • Ability to teach at the university level.
  • Eligible to participate in government-funded research projects.
  • Ability to receive federal research funds on behalf of the university.
  • Ability to meet all applicable research security requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with materials design and processing.
  • Experience with validated artificial intelligence and models at the mesoscale and systems scale.
  • Experience in areas of application such as infrastructure for fossil fuels (gas/oil), hydrogen, greenhouse gas mitigation (e.g., CO2), renewable energy, nuclear, defence, dual-use applications, and other related advanced materials.
  • Experience working across disciplinary boundaries.
  • Experience working with communities and industry.
  • A strong commitment to high-quality teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in energy-related materials and/or processes for energy production, conversion, storage, transport, and utilization.
  • Engage in experimental and/or computational aspects of energy materials research, including materials design and processing, and validated artificial intelligence and models at the mesoscale and systems scale.
  • Teach courses within the Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering.
  • Supervise graduate students.
  • Contribute to the academic and research community of the Faculty of Engineering.
  • Foster interdisciplinary research and collaboration within and outside the engineering faculty.
  • Engage with communities and industry.
  • Foster a workplace that prioritizes safety in all its forms - physical, cultural, and psychological.
