About The Position

The Department of Engineering at Abilene Christian University (ACU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ, and this position requires the employee to be a professing Christian willing to support the university's Christian mission. The successful candidate will be a talented engineer and dedicated follower of Christ, eager to shape the next generation of engineers through teaching, mentorship, research, and program-building. A strong desire to develop teaching excellence and provide intentional student mentorship is expected. The candidate will also establish a sustainable research or scholarly program that prioritizes undergraduate student participation. The Department of Engineering, founded in 2012, serves approximately 200 students and its program is ABET/EAC accredited under “General Engineering.” The department is preparing for accreditation in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering in Fall 2027, offering a robust academic environment for the expanding Construction Management program. Applications are reviewed until the position is filled.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a closely related construction field.
  • Past record of effective communication, teamwork, and planning skills.
  • Record of or demonstrated potential for scholarly work.
  • Must be a professing Christian and willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.

Nice To Haves

  • Classroom or laboratory teaching experience at the University level.
  • Significant professional field experience in the construction management industry.
  • Professional certification or licensure within construction, construction management, or engineering related fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to gain research or external project funding for scholarly work.
  • Experience with construction software (eg., Primavera, MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam, BIM, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver effective instruction across a range of foundational and discipline-specific construction management courses and laboratories.
  • Implement evidence-based instructional methods that reflect current best practices in construction and engineering pedagogy.
  • Lead the development and execution of experiential learning activities, hands-on instruction, and project-based coursework.
  • Collaborate on the continuous improvement of curriculum and facilities to support the program's initial accreditation process.
  • Establish a sustainable program of scholarly activity consistent with your expertise and the university’s mission.
  • Actively involve undergraduate students in applied research or scholarly projects, providing them with high-impact professional experiences.
  • Pursue opportunities for external funding, industry sponsorships, and peer-reviewed dissemination of findings.
  • Mentor construction management students in their academic progress, career planning, and professional development.
  • Assist the program Chair in building industry partnerships and navigating the program accreditation process.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor for student professional organizations and departmental or university committees.
