About The Position
SUNY Sullivan is seeking a part-time Professional Tutor to provide academic support to students. This role involves one-on-one and small-group tutoring within the One Stop Tutoring Center, and potentially in-class support. The tutor will collaborate with faculty and staff to help students succeed across various subjects.
Requirements
- College background required.
- Ability to demonstrate strong knowledge in specific academic subjects.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population, at many skill levels, in a friendly and supportive way.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Spanish Language fluency preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities
- Review and reinforce class material for clarity and understanding through one-on-one or group tutoring.
- Provide expertise in specific content and cognitive areas to support learning.
- Direct and maintain the focus of tutorial sessions.
- Refine students' study skills for independent learning through individual, group, or workshop sessions, covering topics such as note-taking, textbook reading, test anxiety, and time management.
- Mentor Peer Tutors.
- Disseminate information and refer students to other services like academic advising, disability services, personal counseling, and career and transfer counseling.
- Collaborate with faculty for assignment clarification and student guidance.
- Participate in tutorial training, staff meetings, and professional development.
- Maintain a professional atmosphere and workplace.
