About The Position

The Professional Tutor works in the Center for Student Support providing in-person or virtual tutoring support to the Undergraduate cohort of enrolled students for Massage Therapy. This position requires flexible scheduling to include possible evenings, as well as one in-person day every weekend during the trimester; may alternate between Saturdays and Sundays. Based on needs, hours per week are up to 20-hours. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a background that includes previous tutoring and/or teaching experience as well as experience with the implementation of a student-centered instructional strategies. The Professional Tutor must have a high level of reliability, commitment, and responsibility and be comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively.

Requirements

  • Massage Therapy graduate who has successfully entered the workforce, currently working as a licensed massage therapist or provisionally with board exam date pending.
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher, while enrolled in the programmatic undergraduate studies.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong knowledge across courses.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population, at many skill levels, in a friendly and supportive way.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced customer service office environment.
  • Candidate must have flexibility for in-person and virtual engagement.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a tutor, teaching assistant, or other programmatic leader during the individual’s student tenure.
  • Experience with the implementation of a student-centered instructional strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and supports students through small group, 1:1 tutoring, and/or hosts drop-in tutor sessions.
  • Provides content-based learning activities to enrich and support course content.
  • Provides study strategy suggestions and tools to enhance active learning.
  • Review and reinforce what has been taught in classes for clarity and understanding.
  • Integrate effective study and learning strategies in addition to discussing content information during student sessions with the goal of assisting the student to develop into a successful, independent learner.
  • Responsible for maintaining records of student contact and submitting paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Will need to become familiar with and use WCOnline.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty for assignment clarification and student guidance.
  • Will need to become familiar with D2L and how to access course materials.
  • Create and submit timely documentation regarding tutor content delivery, attendance, etc.
  • Provide support and review for general assignments to support student needs.
  • Direct and maintain focus of the tutorial session.
  • Refine students' study skills for independent learning using individual, group, or workshop sessions; topic areas may include, but are not limited to, note-taking skills, college textbook and reading skills, goal setting, test anxiety, and time management.
  • Provide mentorship, as needed, to student tutors.
  • Disseminate information and refer students to other services such as academic advising, disability services, personal counseling, and career readiness services.
  • Participate in tutorial training, staff meetings, and professional development as directed.
  • Help to support exam proctoring.
  • Maintain professional demeanor.
  • Be familiar with Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics, and other programmatic requirements.
  • Participate in all required trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
