About The Position

6 South at UPMC Hamot is looking to add a Casual Professional Staff Nurse to our team! This 43-bed Cardiovascular, Renal Transplant, and Surgical Specialty Acute Care Unit provides post-op care for a wide range of patients, including those recovering from cardiothoracic, vascular, and gastric bypass surgeries. The unit also specializes in telemetry, oxygen monitoring, and offers care for kidney transplant and hepatobiliary surgery patients. Title and salary will be determined based on education and experience. Purpose: The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse who sets the standard for care quality, providing direct patient care through independent judgment and collaboration with the healthcare team. This role is responsible for managing patient care and ensuring the best outcomes through leadership, partnership, and supervision, while also demonstrating a commitment to the nursing profession and community.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year experience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • BSN preferred.
  • UPMC approved national certification preferred.
