About The Position

ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is hiring a Full-Time Professional Staff Nurse to support our 5 Pavilion nursing unit. The 5 North Pavilion has 30 private beds and is primarily an orthopedic service line including elective joint replacements, joint revisions and fractures. It also specializes in urological surgery, including robotic prostatectomies and bladder resections. The unit offers a wide range of medical management, including wound care, surgical recovery, and patient education. Nurses have the opportunity to participate in hospital-based councils, committees, research projects, and continued unit development and quality projects. The unit encourages continuing education through academia, certifications, in-services, and conferences. Registered Nurses work rotation shifts including weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage. The environment is fast-paced, positive, encouraging, and team-oriented, where staff rely on and trust one another. The unit is recognized as a Center of Excellence for Total Joint Replacement and is known for its high-performing, team-based culture, nursing phlebotomy model for increased autonomy, and opportunity for professional growth on the Nursing Career Ladder. It is recognized as a leader in both patient and staff satisfaction. Certification from the Orthopedic Nursing Certification Board (ONCB) is highly encouraged and supported with financial assistance available.

Requirements

  • zero to six months experience.
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34
  • Individuals hired into this role must comply with UPMC’s COVID vaccination requirements upon beginning employment with UPMC.

  • BSN preferred.
  • UPMC approved national certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Practices solid communication skills, and is able to articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices. Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.
  • Creates a caring and compassionate patient focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families and colleagues.
  • Serves as a highly engaged and full partner on the care team and responds willingly to care team member needs for assistance and partnership.
  • Adapts to change and demonstrates flexibility with the change process.
  • Actively participates in department or unit-specific quality improvement efforts. Identifies opportunity for quality improvement to colleagues and management.
  • Takes personal responsibility in improving patient satisfaction with the quality of care and service.
