About The Position

The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and member of the care delivery team, responsible and accountable for the provision and quality of nursing care. The nurse manages and provides care for a group of patients and their families using independent judgment, communication, collaboration, leadership, partnership, and supervision. The role establishes collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients, and families to achieve desired patient outcomes across the continuum of care, and demonstrates commitment to the community and nursing profession. This position serves the med/surg E4 unit in Hanover on UPMC’s Weekend Option: every Saturday and Sunday, 6:45 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. The nurse applies the nursing process within Relationship Based Care, develops patient-centered plans, provides education, participates in quality improvement and shared governance, and supports safe, compassionate care. The role requires the knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care to patients across the ages served by the assigned unit. UPMC describes opportunities for career and financial growth through career ladders, paid time off and holidays, tuition reimbursement, and a possible sign-on bonus for experienced RNs. Weekend and night programs may offer premium pay differentials. Employees entering or transitioning into these programs need at least six months of nursing experience and may need to complete orientation during regular business hours.
