About The Position

Seasoned Registered Nurse Needed for night shift with UPMC Western Maryland's Resource Intensive Care Unit! Are you a seasoned RN looking for a change? Your moment has arrived! UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Registered Nurse with at least two years of nursing experience, with at least one being within Critical Care to support our Resource Intensive Care department. As a Professional Staff Nurse, you will provide highly competent patient care and treatment while demonstrating empathy and a passion for learning. You will set the standards for the level and quality of nursing care and possess authority and accountability for its provision. You'll also bring valuable prior critical care experience to our team!

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
  • At least one year of nursing experience within Critical Care.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Self-motivated nurse.
  • Must achieve and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating on annual Professional Staff Performance Evaluations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide age-appropriate care and apply principles of growth and development across the lifespan.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess patient data and interpret age-specific needs according to department policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex environment with multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exemplary clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred (Master’s in Nursing or DNP may substitute for certification).
  • UPMC-approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained. OR Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification.

  • Demonstrate advanced clinical assessment and analytical skills within the framework of Relationship-Based Care.
  • Actively participate in shared governance at the unit level and contribute to hospital-wide councils.
  • Mentor and precept students, graduate nurses, and new hires with enthusiasm and expertise.
  • Analyze clinical and behavioral situations to identify learning opportunities for improving patient care.
  • Seek and apply feedback for continuous professional growth.
  • Support ongoing learning by sharing research, presenting educational materials, and fostering journal clubs.
  • Apply the nursing process to create holistic, patient-centered care plans that involve patients as partners.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care teams; advocate for changes in care and unit practices.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation that facilitates communication among caregivers.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in addressing clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual patient needs.
  • Incorporate organizational and national standards to enhance patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.
  • Build compassionate, healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
