Interns work alongside department personnel in a wide spectrum of assignments throughout the CMPD, being exposed to effective problem-solving and partnership-building skills, as well as gaining a better understanding of day-to-day operations of the police department. The internship program will be an eight-week long assignment to one of CMPD’s various divisions working a twenty- hour per week schedule in a professional staff capacity. All applicants must submit a current resume, letter of recommendation from the current educational institution, and a certified copy of a current college transcript.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a 4- year undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and two years of completed coursework.
  • Must be a student in good standing with their educational institution.
  • Must have dependable transportation to ensure consistent and timely attendance as scheduled.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments.
  • Have strong communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Have active listening/active learning abilities.
  • Ability to follow oral and written procedures and policies.
  • Ability to adhere to required uniform/ professional attire standards.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and engage in active real-world situations with officers and professional staff that require you to think critically, assess problems, and propose solutions.
  • Assist with administrative and operational tasks across various divisions, gaining exposure to departmental procedures and workflows.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive information and internal communications.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams and adapt to different roles within the department.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy when completing assigned tasks and documentation.
  • Manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks, and remain adaptable to changing circumstances.
