About The Position

The Professional Engineer (PE) position is a vital leadership role that delivers expert engineering support to the FAA Logistics Center (FAALC) and key federal partners, including DHS, CBP, and DoD. As a trusted subject matter expert (SME), you will oversee the maintenance, assessment, and enhancement of complex surveillance, communications, and infrastructure systems that ensure the safety and resilience of national security and critical airspace operations. You will manage cross-functional teams, drive technical excellence, and foster collaboration among federal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Must possess a Professional Engineer (PE) Seal or Stamp.
  • Must be able and willing to travel up to 75% of the time to perform maintenance, repairs, and reporting tasks as directed.
  • Capable of working at heights 80 feet or above, including eligibility for hazardous duty compensation when required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical, or industrial) or related field.
  • Formal training and demonstrated competency in engineering support for complex systems.
  • Experience with assessments, inspections, and technical reporting.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required, must be able to obtain and maintain security clearances and pass background investigations (FAA and DHS/CBP).
  • Ability to work at heights of 80 feet or above and in various environmental conditions (as required).
  • Proficiency with data analysis and reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments and inspections of CBP and FAA systems, providing detailed reports and recommendations.
  • Maintain and update asset end-of-life databases, including mitigation recommendations.
  • Lead efforts to monitor candidates for in-house repairs and to develop documentation, test plans, and milestone schedules.
  • Research and report demand/failure data for cost-saving initiatives and in-house repair solutions.
  • Evaluate and report on the feasibility of the FAA performing repairs, pre-vendor testing, and maintenance.
  • Develop and write Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) and Engineering Change Requests (ECR).
  • Perform reverse engineering and create test procedures for government assets.
  • Research opportunities for parts commonality and reliability improvements.
  • Provide metrics for government systems, including failure tracking, vendor repair tracking, and cost savings.
  • Observe, provide feedback, and make recommendations on environmental testing.
  • Provide data entry, data mining, and data analysis on designated systems.
  • Track depot-level repair of assets.
  • Travel to remote sites as required.
  • Responsible for conducting serviceability testing, preventive and corrective maintenance, and limited repairs on government assets at designated facilities.
  • Accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, and asset status in various automated tracking systems (e.g., ILS-S, LCSS).
  • Troubleshoot, repair, install, and manage government assets, ensuring thorough documentation in required reports.
  • Maintain specialized systems (e.g., booms, hydraulic systems) and support Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) activities, including hardware and software upgrades.
  • Provide help line support during normal business hours and generate reports for service requests and work orders.
  • Participate in developing work instructions and test procedures and provide recommendations for hardware and software improvements.
