About The Position

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is looking for a Professional Engineer to join our team in the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF) program of the Water Quality Division. This position is responsible for engineering review and analysis to ensure public drinking water facilities are constructed and operated in compliance with statutes, policies, and state and federal regulations. This position works with facilities and provides engineering project management for a variety of technically complex projects. The position will complete assessments for water system planning, design, capacity, construction management, operations, maintenance, and financing to ensure drinking water facilities are providing optimal levels of performance. This position acts as an engineering liaison for the Department to the public and municipalities on matters associated with water system engineering plan documents, design standards, processes, products, operations, and policies. These positions includes a career ladder for professional development and pay progression. Effective February 23, 2026, this agency participates in E-Verify to confirm employment eligibility. Requirements

  • Licensed professional engineer as required by Section 37-67-301, MCA, and the Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors or Engineer
  • Education and experience requirements as described by Section 37-67-323, MCA.
  • Current valid Driver's License and clean driving record in accordance with State of Montana Vehicle Use Policy

  • Preferred related work experience in the design or review of engineering plans and specifications for water or wastewater infrastructure projects.
