The Professional Development Specialist serves as a nurse planner for the system and supports the development, planning, presentation and evaluation of educational activities within areas of expertise which fosters the development of competencies in the learner. Exudes excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of staff members with different levels of education. Coordinates VH American Heart Training Center Programs in accordance with the PAM. Serves as a resource and supports RQI initiatives and maintenance. Provides and supports shared governance and professional practice activities to achieve departmental and overall nursing organizational goals. Understands PI principles and oversees process improvement and risk management issues. Serves to enhance staff nurse retention by role modeling professional practice and providing quality education through the Professional Development department to include AHA Training Courses and courses related to the cardiac pathway. Provides and supports an engaging learning environment. Serves on the CPR Committee and collaborates with PI/Quality Dept. to provide high quality education to support the staff in maintaining clinical skills to save lives. Professional development is the lifelong process of active participation by nurses in learning activities that assist in developing and maintaining continuing competencies, enhancing professional practice and supporting achievement of career goals. Completes CE credits each year (Educators may use CEs from classes they teach. The CEs may not be used more than once. 12 CEs must be non-teaching). Serves as a role model in the roles of educator, facilitator, change agent, and leader to promote the professional growth of peers. Promotes the professional practice of nursing.
