Under the leadership of the Director of Student Counseling Services (SCS), the Professional Counselor provides specialized clinical mental health services to students through individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, risk assessment, consultation, outreach, case management, and care coordination. The position serves as a resource to the university community by supporting student well-being, responding to mental health concerns and crises, consulting with faculty, staff, students, and community partners, and collaborating with campus and community stakeholders to promote student success. Responsibilities also include maintaining timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with state licensure requirements and university policies, participating in clinical consultation and staffing activities, and contributing to outreach and educational programming related to mental health and wellness. The Professional Counselor position is designed to allow for flexible scheduling and service delivery as needed to support the priorities of leadership and the evolving needs of the campus community. Serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA). The position is on-site at Tarleton State's Stephenville campus. Occasional travel to the Fort Worth campus and offsite events allows for continued support and engagement across multiple university communities.

Requirements

Master’s or doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
Knowledge of standard office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc).
Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Adherence to the ethical principles and code of conduct for the relevant Texas State Licensing Board and all relevant laws for the State of Texas
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Ability to present information clearly and concisely
Knowledge of and adherence to professional and ethical guidelines.
Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
All clinical staff must maintain appropriate Texas licensure in good standing and comply with all applicable laws, regulations, ethical standards, and professional conduct requirements established by BHEC, the State of Texas, and Tarleton State University as a condition of continued employment.
Employees must also successfully complete all required background screenings in accordance with university policies and procedures.

Nice To Haves

For Professional Counselor I: Must hold a provisional clinical license (e.g., LPC-Associate, LMFT-Associate, LMSW). Employees holding a provisional license must obtain full licensure within the timeframe required by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC) and remain in compliance with SCS standards to maintain eligibility for continued employment.
For Professional Counselor II: Minimum of two years of related professional experience.
For Professional Counselor II: Must hold a current, unrestricted Texas license as a Licensed Psychologist (LP), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and maintain the license in good standing with BHEC as a condition of continued employment.
