About The Position

This role is for an enthusiastic and hard-working engineer to join the Production Vehicle Evaluation Test (PVET) and OBD Compliance team. This team contributes to General Motors' vision of Zero Collisions by ensuring engine diagnostic monitors detect faults appropriately and provide drivers with the opportunity to bring the vehicle to a safe stop. The position involves hands-on testing to confirm compliance with California Air Resource Board (CARB) regulations, ensuring engine diagnostics function correctly on production vehicles and demonstrate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination when a fault is present. Documentation of required testing must be submitted within six months of the start of regular production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or relevant discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience in Engineering.
  • Experience in reading electrical schematics.
  • Valid US Driver's License with ability to operate test vehicles.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn VSpy and WinValid development tools.
  • Ability to plan, organize, track, and lead multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as with others.
  • Demonstrated excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members to resolve issues.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of OBD-II regulations and requirements.
  • Familiarity with Gas Engine Diagnostics.
  • Experience in Verification, Validation, Calibration or Engine Controls.
  • Previous experience with vehicle electrical systems & schematics.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn ABOB, Serial Data Suite and INCA engineering development tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-vehicle hands-on testing to confirm compliance with California Air Resource Board (CARB) regulations.
  • Confirm that all engine diagnostics are functional on Production vehicles.
  • Demonstrate the ability of engine diagnostics to illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) when a fault is present.
  • Submit documentation of the required testing within 6 months of start of regular production.
  • Coordinate and perform diagnostic testing on production vehicles at the Milford Proving Ground.
  • Execute the test plan for each vehicle application on time.
  • Work cross-organizationally with different Calibration teams, Software Engineers, and Technical Specialists to determine if diagnostics are functioning as intended.
  • Complete required PVET testing for yearly CARB vehicle picks.
  • Work closely with the PVET/OBD Lead to ensure all vehicles are ordered and arrive on time.
  • Collaborate with other PVET engineers on best test methods and practices.
  • Work closely with calibrators, algorithm designers, and Technical Specialists to determine if expected diagnostic results are observed.
  • Continuously expand knowledge of the functional aspects behind every engine diagnostic across multiple vehicle applications.
  • Train and mentor new employees.
