About The Position

The fundamental purpose of the Converting Utility Operator is to work in tandem with the operator and assistant operators in setting up, operating, adjusting machinery, and stacking unitized products. In addition, the Converting Utility Operator assures the quality of the product produced by the machine meets the needs of our customers. The various converting lines may print, die cut, fold, and unitize corrugated materials into boxes.

Responsibilities

  • Place printing dies on cylinders according to specifications and re-hang after cleaning.
  • Transport cutting dies to and from storage racks and machine.
  • Assist with ink system setup.
  • Set up the feed hopper, pre-feeder, obtain dunnage and cut for the load former.
  • Assist with stacker end setup depending on operator circumstances.
  • Keep materials in place at the in-feed section.
  • Pull tie sheets and bottom sheets from loads at the in-feed.
  • Wash printing dies.
  • Perform stacker duties such as laying down dunnage sheets, emptying waste carts, pulling trim.
  • Complete daily cleanup activities, including blowing down machine during extensive cleanup periods and cleaning out pits.
  • Hand feed stock onto in-feed tables and into hoppers.
  • Rarely restack spilled loads.
  • Work overtime as mandated and on any machine that is required.
  • Adhere to company and job-specific safety procedures including lockout requirements.
  • Attend any meetings, including safety meetings as scheduled.
  • Contact the machine operator, maintenance, supervisor, or department lead regarding problems encountered with the machine.
  • Use hand tools periodically.
  • Complete maintenance requests for activities requiring the attention of the maintenance department.
  • Perform cleanup activities using compressed air, scraper, soap, brush, and water hose.
  • Keep work area picked up.
  • Perform more extensive cleanup on down days.
  • Perform some lubrication functions on down days.
  • Paint machinery and equipment on down days.
  • Communicate with other crew members throughout the shift.
  • Use hand signals as necessary.
  • Communicate with the supervisor.
