About The Position

As our Production Technician, you will be actively involved in all areas of seed production and perform all tasks associated with general plant operations and field activities. Responsibilities vary throughout the year and may include crop production, detasseling, harvest, conditioning, packaging, or warehousing. Reporting directly to the Plant Operations Manager, you may supervise and train seasonal employees throughout the production operation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of on-the-job or related agricultural experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and remain insurable under company auto policy.
  • Possess or willing to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Understanding of production agriculture and plant processes.
  • Skilled in performing tasks safely and efficiently while maintaining seed quality.
  • Comfortable working in diverse conditions (hot, cold, wet, dry) both indoors and outdoors.
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Effective communicator with strong organizational abilities.
  • Capable of making independent decisions and adapting to changing conditions.
  • Excellent safety practices with supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Skilled in resolving conflicts and solving problems.
  • Basic PC skills and forklift operation expertise.
  • Familiarity with OSHA Standards for General Industry.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture or ag-related field.
  • Four years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in field inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Foster positive relationships with growers, contractors, field inspectors, and machine operators.
  • Manage the weighing and unloading of seed corn trucks.
  • Oversee husking and sorting operations.
  • Operate dryers to meet safety, quality, and cost standards for seed corn.
  • Organize shelling, storage, and supply of seed corn.
  • Maintain a steady supply of seed for the Conditioning department.
  • Clean, size, treat, and package seed corn.
  • Manage inventory using electronic systems, including labeling, tagging, and staging for shipment.
  • Schedule and dispatch vehicles for seed distribution and backhaul.
  • Conduct regular maintenance on equipment and minimize downtime.
  • Supervise and schedule seasonal staff, working overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Ensure all tasks adhere to safety policies and protect the well-being of team members.
