About The Position

The Production Technician is responsible for performing machine and systems troubleshooting and repair, assisting with the specification, installation, and modification of integrated systems. This role involves conducting diagnostic checks on automated equipment, isolating problems, and making repairs using a variety of skill sets including controls, electrical, general mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding. The technician will also be responsible for completing shift start-up paperwork, performing preventive maintenance tasks, understanding machine specifications, and executing changeovers. Additionally, the role includes filling component hoppers, pulling inspection test samples, updating production boards, processing warehouse orders, submitting repair tags, and performing the functions of a Team Operator when required. The technician will also assist with training new personnel, maintain 5S standards, model company values, and perform other related duties. A key aspect of this position is ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, good business practices, and company procedures, including environmental, health, and safety regulations. The role also requires active participation in Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives with a focus on continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in multiple skill clusters, including electronics, mechanical systems and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of tools and components used in the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and experience in troubleshooting simple to complex motor control relays, contactors, and jog circuits.
  • Automated and semi-automated machinery and process knowledge.
  • Sound judgment in the execution of technical/troubleshooting issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills to facilitate communication at various levels and areas within the organization.
  • Understanding of computers and computerized controls.
  • Ability to learn new technologies; understand and perform continuous improvement activities.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma, or GED required.
  • Up to 3 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Previous experience with automated and semi-automated equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform machine and systems troubleshooting and repair; assist with the specification, installation and modification of integrated systems.
  • Perform diagnostic checks on automated equipment; isolate problems including, sensors, controllers, encoders, servomotors, and/or servo valves.
  • Make repairs to production equipment utilizing controls, drawings, electrical, general mechanics, hand tools, hydraulics, machine shop, piping systems, pneumatics, and welding.
  • Complete shift start up paperwork such as process parameter, traceability, and start-up checklist.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks – includes all Level I required tasks as per MP.
  • Understand machine MO, PC, WP, STM and Interim Specifications.
  • Perform changeovers – line clearance of components and tooling changeouts.
  • Fill component hoppers and complete necessary traceability paperwork.
  • Pull inspection test samples and stage for QC Operator.
  • Engage in machine troubleshooting on all assigned stations – bevel mold, pin & heater block changeout and bevel trim adjustments.
  • Update hourly production boards with production and efficiency numbers for all Mods; note issues that prevented goal attainment (downtime, waste, quality, etc.).
  • Process warehouse ordering of components and pull tooling for changeovers.
  • Submit machine repair tags to identify issues requiring support services.
  • Perform all functions of a Team Operator when required.
  • Assist with training of new Technicians.
  • Maintain 5S standards in assigned work areas.
  • Model company values and support strategic initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
  • Assure compliance of Company operations to all applicable laws, regulations and standards, good business practices and company documented procedures (including knowledge of all standards, government occupational health and environmental regulations and statutes related to the site).
  • Engage others; promote and participate in Environmental, Health and Safety initiatives, focusing on continuous improvement.
