About The Position

Tokai Carbon is seeking dependable team members for their Bake Department. This role supports the operation of the ring furnace where large carbon electrodes are baked at high temperatures. The position is hands-on, in a 24/7/365 industrial environment, emphasizing safety, teamwork, and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Experience in a manufacturing role with the use of hand/power tools (experience in mechanical, electrical, automotive repairs, construction, carpentry, or other similar environments will be considered).
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and understand basic instructions, safety information, and work orders.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly in all forms.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and move or maneuver up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work comfortably at different heights.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.
  • Must be willing to cross‑train and flex back into areas where you have demonstrated competency.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working in heavy industrial environments, hot-work areas, or furnace operations.
  • Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and mobile equipment to load, move, and position material in and around the ring furnace.
  • Assist with furnace pit operations, including covering/uncovering pits, placing/stacking material, and monitoring bake progress.
  • Perform general housekeeping to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Inspect equipment and perform basic mechanical tasks to keep tools and machinery in safe working condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures related to heat exposure, confined spaces, mobile equipment, and carbon materials.
  • Recognize and troubleshoot routine operational issues and communicate concerns promptly.
  • Complete required documentation and maintain accurate production records.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and work environments.
  • Work in conditions that can be hot (especially during summer months) and dusty or dirty due to carbon materials and furnace operations.
  • Regularly be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and work near loud moving mechanical parts.
  • Work nights, weekends, and overtime as required to support production needs.
