About The Position

The Tech Director at Laurel School is responsible for the design and implementation of technical aspects for a wide range of school events, including theatrical productions, assemblies, and concerts. Laurel has a legacy of strong performances; traditions are as important as new ideas. Creativity, imagination, and flexibility are as crucial as practical skills. This is a full-time position with focused work time in the afternoon and on Tuesday and Thursday mornings; more hours are required around performance events that may occur in the evenings or weekends, and during tech weeks. A full calendar will be provided to candidates.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years of experience in technical theatre required
Experience in carpentry, scenic painting, sound/lighting design
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work well in teams
Ability to lift 50+ pounds with or without assistance, work on ladders and platforms, and stand for extended periods

Nice To Haves

Specialization in one or more areas of technical theatre preferred (i.e. A/V, carpentry, etc)
Experience as a teacher or student mentor preferred

Responsibilities

Collaborate with faculty to dream big and execute artistic vision.
Execute set design, construction, installation, and removal.
Manage lighting and sound design/operation for events.
Serve as the Tech Director for theatrical productions.
Manage Performing Arts spaces (Chapel, green room, workshop, costume shop, amphitheater).
Adhere to fire codes and respond to event needs via school scheduling systems.
Coordinate with facilities teams for larger repairs.
Coordinate and oversee the student Chapel Tech team and student stage management/crew.
Train Upper School students in various technical protocols.
Maintain production spaces across campuses and ensure sound, technical, and production equipment is properly stored, managed, and maintained.
Prepare production and presentation spaces and provide technical support for schoolwide events (concerts, Curriculum Nights, community presentations).
Provide technical support for outside rentals during non-school hours.
Provide technical support for student music concerts, including AV support.
Provide building and technical direction for the annual Snowflake Assembly, with special attention to lights and sound setup.
Attend production meetings and faculty/staff meetings.
Maintain timely communication with faculty, students, and families.
