Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or at least four years related experience and training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and apply precision measurements.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to traverse shop floor and work in a loud environment.
  • Ability to move engine components and test equipment weighing up to 75 pounds during the course of an engine examination.
  • Ability to position self to install engine in test cell or conduct engine examinations.
  • All candidates both internally and externally will be required to qualify before becoming eligible to be assigned to the PTM Welder position. Testing will be an eye test and welding demonstration. The welding demonstration will be required to pass NDT testing such as x-ray.

Responsibilities

  • Use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.
  • Join, fabricate, and repair metal and other material using appropriate welding techniques while working in a supported learning environment.
  • Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and/or schematics to determine appropriate welding process.
  • Ability to apply attained knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures, associated within a metal working environment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to safety requirements, OSHA, and environmental policies.
  • When Welding is not available this position will perform tasks associated with a PTM in department 610 or other departments as defined by the collective bargained agreement.
  • Clean and maintain equipment.
  • Think critically and formulate, fabricate, and assemble required items.
  • Other duties as assigned.
