About The Position

The Team Lead serves as the frontline leader on the production floor, guiding a small group of operators through daily tasks, ensuring adherence to standard work, and acting as the first responder to line issues. This is typically a working lead role, combining hands-on production work with informal supervisory duties.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated reliability and strong understanding of the production process/line
  • Basic understanding of safety and quality standards on the floor
  • Ability to train and guide coworkers in a clear, patient manner
  • Basic computer skills for time and production data entry
  • Familiarity with lean tools (5S, standard work)
  • Forklift or other equipment certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 4 years of manufacturing production experience, ideally in automotive, heavy equipment, or discrete manufacturing
  • Must be able to stand and walk on a concrete shop floor for up to 8–10 hours per day.
  • Ability to climb into truck beds, vans, and trailers to perform internal inspections.
  • Must be able to lift between 30-50 lbs
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and work on a computer

  • Prior informal leadership experience (shift lead, trainer, or similar), preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead up to 5 members of production operators through daily production tasks and job assignments
  • Ensure operators follow standard work instructions, safety procedures, and quality checks
  • Act as first responder for minor line stoppages, quality issues, or process deviations; escalate to Supervisor as needed
  • Train new or cross-training operators on job tasks and standard work
  • Monitor and report basic line metrics (output, scrap, downtime) to the Production Supervisor
  • Support 5S, visual management, and workplace organization standards on the line
  • Fill in on the line as needed to cover absences or balance workload
  • Participate in daily tier/huddle meetings, communicating team status and issues
  • Support continuous improvement suggestions and participate in kaizen events
  • Help enforce attendance, break schedules, and basic team conduct standards
  • Assist with onboarding and mentoring new hires on the team
