About The Position

Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) designs, develops, and manufactures advanced composite components to help customers push the frontiers of innovation. AEC's core strength lies in producing highly tailored, complex composite components using a unique blend of products including 3D woven structures, traditional and non-traditional 2D composite structures, and discrete through thickness reinforcement technologies. This role involves performing lay-up, braiding, and filament winding of composite materials according to specifications, as well as assembling major structures and subassemblies. The position also includes performing various fitting operations, measuring parts for accuracy, and potentially monitoring quality control. Technicians assist in daily production operations, handle shipping and receiving duties using various equipment and computers, and prepare materials for shipment. They may also fabricate shipping crates and prepare parts for special shipment.

Requirements

  • High School/Associates Degree or equivalent experience
  • SAP system functions/transactions.
  • Inventory systems and procedures.

  • SAP skills.
  • Excellent communication/organization skills.
  • Safely operate a forklift and other material handling equipment.
  • Above average computer skills using SAP, Microsoft Office, RF Devices and Shipping Systems.

  • Proven problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize work.
  • Must be able to safely lift 50 Lbs.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Must be a US Person as required by Department of Defense Contractor regulations.
  • Ability to work 24/7 schedule and be available as business situations required, overtime dependent on business need.
  • Frequent repetitive hand movements, using hand tools – pliers, sanders, scissors, etc.
  • Frequently remain in a stationary position up to 75% of the time.
  • Frequently move about the facility indoors as well as outdoors to make repairs, etc.
  • Constantly positions self to repair/build equipment and/or facility.
  • Frequently ascends/descends a ladder to service equipment and/or complete a building repair.
  • Must be able to detect equipment issues and assess for repairs.
  • Regularly move tools and equipment up to >25 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform lay-up, braiding, and filament winding of composite materials in accordance with customer and company specifications.
  • Assemble and fit pre-fabricated metallic and composite parts to form major assembly structures and structural subassemblies.
  • Perform minor part-fitting operations such as filing, sawing, de-burring, crimping, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, and reaming.
  • Measure parts using micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions.
  • Modify incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate changes.
  • Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
  • Assist in the day-to-day functions of production operations.
  • Perform manual and clerical shipping and/or receiving duties, potentially using hand trucks, forklifts, and computers.
  • Receive incoming materials or prepare materials for shipment, verifying quantity, weight, and conformance.
  • Prepare records of materials shipped and bills of lading, and route materials to destinations.
  • Lay out, fabricate, and assemble nonstandard shipping crates and boxes, and prepare parts and tooling for special shipment.
  • Bond a variety of dissimilar materials (composite, metal, or laminate) assemblies, parts, skins, components, equipment, or structures into semi-finished or finished products.
  • Apply liquid or solid bonding agents and operate autoclave, hydraulic presses, and ovens to complete bonding cycles.
  • Control conditions of heat, pressure, and timing by setting and operating various controls according to specifications.
  • Sand, de-burr, and smooth areas, and apply sealing resins to cut or exposed edges.
  • Complete repairs on composite, metal, or laminate bonded products using inspection and rework instructions.
  • Identify different process materials, prepregs, adhesives, and resins.
  • Assist with cutting and kitting materials.
  • Complete lay-ups using measuring instruments per shop orders, blueprints, or laser ply projector.
  • Vacuum bag basic shapes and sizes.
  • Assist in loading autoclaves and/or ovens with the use of forklifts, cranes, or handling carts.
  • Read and interpret aircraft assembly instruction plans, diagrams, drawings, and other documentation.
  • Utilize hand and power tools such as drills to assemble and fabricate components with fasteners and bonding agents.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Work with quality department personnel to ensure production assemblies meet sign-off levels and specifications.
  • Manage all transfer orders for material required by Operations.
  • Perform relevant SAP transactions and reporting.
  • Coordinate all material transfers to and from Production Supply Areas.
  • Verify accuracy of incoming/outgoing material transfers.
  • Ensure batch/lot control (FIFO) on material being transacted.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts.
  • Transfer completed parts from Operations to Quality.
  • Work exception reports to ensure all production orders have materials charged correctly and material is transferred to the PSAs prior to need.
  • Work flexible hours to achieve daily departmental objectives.
  • Observe, support, and contribute to Company safety programs, policies, and initiatives.
  • Ensure that all company and governmental policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Troubleshoot and assist in solving problems.
  • Drive continuous improvements in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Maintain housekeeping and organization (5S) of the Shipping/Receiving area.
  • Ensure availability of supplies required for material handling activities.
  • Interact and coordinate activities with other departments.
