About The Position

The Advanced Manufacturing Prototype Division (AMPD) Production Support Manager provides the main leadership in assigned production prototype areas that translates the customer deliverables into daily work tasks for execution by the AMPD group. Manage the execution strategy and program interface within the Advanced Manufacturing Prototype Division. Provide direct supervisory authority to AMPD execution staff, and be responsible for tracking and managing all phases of work planning activities within AMPD. Effectively utilize resources to efficiently plan jobs, identify and procure needed materials, and track jobs to completion. Provide direct support to the SMFO Directors to plan and schedule work, communicate with front line supervision, support groups, and Program Management. Interface with different levels of management throughout the site; and be responsible for regular reporting in site level meetings with internal and external customers, and other management as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree: Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant supervisory/management experience.
  • Eighteen (18) or more years of relevant education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting; must include, at a minimum, 5 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Requires strong technical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Conduct of Operations, Integrated Safety Management System and Quality requirements.
  • Demonstrated implementation of Lean, 5S and Continuous Improvement projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Experience in manufacturing environment, with working knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes.
  • A working understanding of the DOE Con Ops manual Y14-001 is required.
  • A strong understanding of the Y-12 Value Stream Organizations, including Escalation, VSETs and other key lean tools related to Value Stream management.
  • Experience in developing and managing schedules and work commitments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software suite (Excel, Work, Powerpoint, etc.).
  • Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
  • Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
  • If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709.

  • Experience working with and/or supporting within a Y-12 VSO is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiating commitments, findings, issues, and assessments is strongly preferred.
  • Program Management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Will continue to develop and refine the Prototype Process for Y-12 Operations.
  • Achieving established goals for deliverables, product quality, personnel safety, procedural adherence, and security protocol adherence within their assigned area of responsibility.
  • Ensuring processes, procedure, tooling and equipment are developed and functional to support AMPD initiatives.
  • Setting performance expectations and monitoring performance of employees assigned to their work area.
  • Ensuring the assigned workers maintain their training and qualifications and that work assignments are in accordance with union contracts and craft jurisdictions.
  • Utilizing workers to participate in job hazard analysis, procedure development, and productivity initiatives to maximize employee involvement in workplace conditions and practices.
  • Executing work within required cost and schedule agreements, including approval and monitoring of overtime for workers.
  • Identifying and evaluating emerging technologies for application to operations.
  • Creating a work environment focused on Continuous Improvement.
  • Identifies strengths and weaknesses within the Y-12 Operations prototype process, and works with all stakeholders to develop the capability.
