About The Position

The Production Supervisor leads and supports the day to day activities for a segment within the industrial, specialty and medical distribution and gas filling operations of a production location. This position assists with coordinating all gas cylinder processing, ultrasonic testing, and compliance with all Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), SAFECOR, and other business related compliance activities. Supports and guides the activities of plant production associates to accomplish team goals. Nurtures a strong safety and compliance culture, proactively addressing unsafe acts or conditions. Coordinates tasks with team members according to customers’ needs, current stock levels, and the strengths of each associate. Reviews production schedules and evaluates team capacity to ensure the successful completion of assignments. Maintains time and production records. Translates company policies for the team and upholds safety standards. Implements measures to advance production methods, equipment performance, and product quality; fosters an environment that increases the effectiveness of the work crew. Collaborates on plans to inspire the team to achieve collective goals. Evaluates and collaborates on work challenges, or assists associates in finding solutions. Recommends or initiates associate actions, such as new hires, promotions, transfers, offboarding, and performance guidance. Provides onboarding for new associates and cross-trains the team to ensure continuous production. Provides assistance to the Plant Manager with regard to planning and managing capital investments. Coordinates the proper inventory levels of supplies and equipment. Drives commitment to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment. Creates a safe work environment by contributing to zero preventable accidents and ensuring continuous alignment with company safety rules, standard operating procedures, and governmental regulations. Evaluates and collaborates on work challenges, and may assist drivers in finding solutions. Creates load sheets for production loaders to prepare trucks for on-time delivery. Assists Branch Manager with driver ride-alongs, providing coaching on Smith Safe Driving principles, DOT paperwork compliance, pre-trip and post-trip inspections, Material Handling, and customer service relations. Participates in monthly safety meetings with drivers, interprets company policies to drivers, and promotes safety culture and standards. Assists Branch Manager with processing cylinder orders for local routes. Processes delivery order tickets in the system. Works closely with Branch Manager on the efficiencies through cylinder utilization and customer replenishment orders (ZRO). Pulls daily orders from SAP system to create the necessary routes for driver deliveries on a daily basis. All employees are expected to perform any reasonable work request that falls within their qualifications but not specifically described.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years industry related experience and/or training within a distribution or industrial production environment.
  • A minimum of 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Proficiency in the operation of a forklift (appropriate certifications will be maintained).

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Prior technical experience with compressed gases, gas analysis and gas lab equipment.
  • Prior experience utilizing SAP preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Google suite applications (GMAIL, Drive, Sheets, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of how to leverage metrics to improve production effectiveness.
  • Ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets.
  • Ability to contribute effectively to a fast-paced environment and meet team deadlines.
