The Production Supervisor coordinates and directs the activities of the production department to maximize productivity and minimize cost while maintaining quality. This role involves inspecting product to verify production specifications are met and training and supervising production personnel. The supervisor ensures that all applicable state and federal requirements are met regarding OSHA, food safety, and fair employment practices. They oversee the day-to-day activities of production operations and personnel to meet established production and quality control standards, and ensure activities meet short-term goals for production continuity and balance, such as creating shift schedules, ordering materials, machine loading, grievance resolution, and equipment maintenance. The supervisor works with other plant function areas as needed to ensure support in attaining output, productivity, and quality. They schedule, train, and motivate the production labor force to ensure consistent attainment of production schedules at optimum productivity and cost levels, and interview and recommend individuals for open positions. Recommendations for improvements in production flow or methods are made, utilizing operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality. Management personnel are notified of machines and/or equipment that could be modified to improve production and quality of products. Other related duties may be assigned to support production demands as specified by customer or client.
